Internet Censorship/Monitoring in the UK

Recent new laws to gather Internet data and block/monitor Internet use of people in the UK is just following on from previous moves, but taken one step further. Once you start on the road, it seems hard to stop. The question is - where does it end? If the politicians bringing forth the idea find that it is too intrusive for their own lives and see fit to add extra protection for themselves then surely this should ring a warning bell somewhere that this may be too intrusive for everyone else also.

“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither and will lose both.” 1)

~~DISCUSSION~~

Paraphrased from “Pennsylvania Assembly: Reply to the Governor”, November 11, 1755; as cited in The Papers of Benjamin Franklin, vol. 6, p. 242, Leonard W. Labaree, ed. (1963) "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"
